WARNING

ESD or Electrostatic Discharge, in any amount, can harm media or data devices. Failures can be a sudden catastrophic failure or a latent failure, where failure occurs due to degradation over time. When handling electronic devices, one must discharge any personal static electricity by "grounding oneself", as in touching a grounded metal object consistently while working in a computer, or by wearing anti-static wristband that is connected to a grounded device.

A computer can sustain serious ESD damage, without your knowledge. Electronic devices such as CPUs, memory chips, motherboards, video cards, etc are highly vulnerable to ESD. Symptoms of ESD degradation are: random memory errors, blue screens, and lock-ups. Usually, a person cannot see (or even feel) ESD, but it is always there, so be sure to do the right thing.

Electronic Device Packaging

If at all possible, use the original packaging for shipping any electronic device for either data recovery or repair. If the original packaging is not available, wrap individual electronic devices, such as hard drives or video cards, in an anti-static bag. Use a box that is twice the size of the device, so one can suspend the item in the middle of the box. A secured, cushion of two inches of foam around the four sides of the device is recommended. A geo-springs kit may also be used. A geo-springs kit uses a plastic spacer to hold either end of the hard drive in suspension in the box. See picture below.

If packing more than one hard drive or other electronic device in one box, use at least an inch of foam as a spacer between the devices.

Label the exterior of the box with "FRAGILE" and "HANDLE WITH CARE". If the item is for RMA, please also clearly list the RMA number on the box. Also include the completed and signed data recovery or the RMA form in the box.

If you need packing materials (i.e. boxes, foam) please CONTACT US.

Computer Packaging

If at all possible, please use the original packaging to ship a computer for repair. If the original packaging is not available, use at least six inches of packaging material around the computer to suspend the computer in the center of the box.

If you need packing materials (i.e. boxes, foam) please CONTACT US.
